There are many local speaking opportunities that are the perfect place to practice your presentation skills before you hit the conference circuit. If you want to use public speaking opportunities as a way to gain authority and build your business then you need to learn how to create content that is interesting and informative to your proposed audience. These opportunities can take the form of teaching workshops and classes or offering real-world experience type presentations to local community centers, high schools, and colleges. You can also reach out to and present topic discussions to your city chamber of commerce or even local interest Meetup groups. These smaller groups will give you the chance to discover the business topics that people are interested in and give you the opportunity to create a targeted presentation. You need to practice in order to become an effective and engaging public speaker and by putting yourself in front of smaller audiences first you will gain the experience and confidence you need.
